The Anointed One spent time learning the scriptures
(He read the Bible)
Last week we saw that at the age of 12, Jesus spent time in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions – and they were amazed at His understanding and answers. The Bible also says that while growing up, He increased in wisdom (Luke 2:41-52) - meaning that the continual learning of God’s word became a habit for Him.
In Matthew 4 we find Jesus quoting scripture when being tempted by the devil – and this happened quite often as well when addressing the Pharisees and Sadducees - Meaning that He knew the scriptures well enough in order to quote it – this too can only come by continual study of God’s word
In the scriptures we looked at concerning the fact that Jesus attended “church” – we also find that He was teaching while being there - Now someone cannot get up to effectively teach without having taken the time to study and know the material that he/she will be teaching - so again we see an example of the fact that Jesus spent time studying God’s word.
So based on all 3 disciplines - the Anointed One went to church, spent time in prayer, and read and studied God’s word on a continual basis.
This tells me that the Holy Spirit thought it wise enough to instill these disciplines within Jesus, and thought it necessary for Him, in order to accomplish God’s purposes while on the Earth and to fulfill His assignment.
So if the Holy Spirit inspired Jesus Christ to attend church, spend time in prayer and read the Bible … how can we think we can go about without doing so?
Let’s make this year different to last year my friend!
Let’s be and do all that we know God is asking of us to do!
… His love makes it worth it!
