All of Creation is upheld by His Word - Part 8

    Based on the scriptures we just read: The universe, which is 1, 419,120,000,000,000,000,000,000.00 Kilometers wide! - is created by the word of the Lord. The billions upon billions of galaxies - which have on average between 100 billion to 1 trillion stars in each of them – were framed by the word of God! VY Canis Majoris, in which you can fit 11,666,192,832,000,000 Earths – Eta Carinae which weighs 200,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg – The Earth that moves at speeds of 1675 km/h, 465 meters/second, 1040 miles/hour; that for every second - you’re moving almost half a kilometer through space, and you don’t even feel it! – The Earth, Sun, moon and stars that are just suspended in space without ever falling! – Are all upheld by the word of His power!!! Now my friend, if the entire universe and all that’s within it is upheld by the word of His power, what does that say about the integrity of His written word as found in the Bible! The same God...

Stars - Part 6

Our own Sun is 1.4 million km across (870,000 miles). That’s such a huge number that it’s hard to get a sense of scale. The Sun accounts for 99.9% of all the matter in our Solar System. In fact, you could fit one million planet Earths inside the Sun ! Astronomers use the terms “solar radius” and “solar mass” to compare large and smaller stars, so we’ll do the same. A solar radius is 690,000 km (432,000 miles) and 1 solar mass is 2 x 10 30 kilograms (4.3 x 10 30 pounds). That’s 2,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg . One star in our galaxy is Eta Carinae, located approximately 7,500 light years away , and weighing in at 100 solar masses . That means that Eta Carinae weighs, 100 multiplied by 2,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 kg!!! It’s also 4 million times as bright as the Sun! The largest known star is VY Canis Majoris; a red hypergiant star in the Canis Major constellation, located about 5,000 light-years from Earth . University of Minnesota professor Roberta Humphreys recently calculated its upper size at more than 2,100 times the size of the Sun . From Wikipedia: "...between 1800 and 2100 solar radii..." Note that this means the radius is not known precisely. Assuming 1800 solar radii. Also, the Sun has 109 times the radius (or diameter) of Earth. That results in this star having 1800 x 109 = about 200,000 times Earth's diameter. Take the cube of that, and you get a volume that is 7,500,000,000,000,000 (7.5 x 10 15 ) times that of Earth. With the higher number (2100), you get 12,000,000,000,000,000 (12 x 10 15 ). Stars - Part 4

Almost all the stars in the Universe are collected together into galaxies. They can be small dwarf galaxies, with just 10 million or so stars, or they can be monstrous irregular galaxies with 10 trillion stars or more. Our own Milky Way galaxy seems to contain about 200 billion stars . So an average galaxy contains between 10 11 and 10 12 stars. In other words, galaxies, on average have between 100 billion and 1 trillion numbers of stars! Now see this: Psalm 147:4-5 He counts the number of the stars;  He calls them all by name .  Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite. My friend, if God can count the billions and trillions of stars that are out there in the known universe – and still knows each one’s name on top of it !!! … we can be sure He knows who we are and that He’s watching over us!

How Big is our God? - Part 3

Jeremiah 23:24 Can anyone hide himself in secret places,  So I shall not see him?” says the Lord ;  “ Do I not fill heaven and earth ?” says the Lord . Our God is so Big that He FILLS the heavens! – that amount that we just calculated - He FILLS that entire distance! 1 Kings 8:27 “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? How Big is the Universe? - Part 2

Recent measurements reveal that the Universe is at least 150 billion light-years in diameter . For comparison, its age is estimated to be about 13.7 billion years. To arrive at that age, scientists had to measure light (or electromagnetic radiation) coming from the outermost borders of the Universe. This radiation, specifically known as the cosmic microwave background radiation is a throwback to the youngest years of the Universe. So if it had to take 13.7 billion years for light coming from the outermost regions to reach us, then we should be expecting a diameter within that order of magnitude. Simply put, around twice that value or 27.4 billion light-years. But we’re seeing a number much larger than that. This value, however, only makes sense if our Universe’s size were constant. How Big is the Universe? - Part 1

Good day (In this series we'll be taking a look at the scope of the universe, as well as the size of certain stars, all in the context of how powerful the word of God really is. Enjoy!)   A light year is a way of measuring distance . We are used to measuring distances in either inches/feet/miles or centimeters/meters/kilometers, depending on where we live. When astronomers use their telescopes to look at stars, things are different. The distances are gigantic. For example, the closest star to Earth (besides our sun) is something like 24,000,000,000,000 miles (38,000,000,000,000 kilometers) away. That's the closest star. There are stars that are billions of times farther away than that. When you start talking about those kinds of distances, a mile or kilometer just isn't a practical unit to use because the numbers get too big. No one wants to write or talk about numbers that have 20 digits in them! ­So to measure really long distances, people use a unit called a ...
