Good day
God wants us to be faithful
Faithfulness can mean different things to different people. For some, their definition may be influenced by past experiences; for others it's defined by how others have treated them.
Expectations differ among different people, therefore someone's expectations of being faithful may differ from another. All of these, among other factors, can cause a blur when it comes down to what it means to be faithful ... so where can we find a proper standard by which we can measure what faithfulness actually means?
The bible says that God is faithful (1 Thes 5:24, 2 Thes 3:3). If we want to know what faithfulness is, then there's no better place to search other than to look at the creator of all things.
One major highlight about God's faithfulness - is just how faithful He actually is:
2 Tim 2:13 - If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot disown Himself
Lam 3:23 - God's faithfulness is great
Ps 57:10 - God's faithfulness reaches to the skies
Ps 89:8 - God's faithfulness surrounds Him
Ps 89:14 - God's faithfulness goes before Him
Ps 100:5 - God's faithfulness continues through all generations
Ps 86:15 - God abounds in faithfulness
Faithfulness is a BIG characteristic of who God is, and who He is to us!
We also know that faithfulness is a fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), meaning that God expects us to display faithfulness (His degree of faithfulness) to others as well.
The question I ask myself after reading those verses is what is my "faithfulness capacity" - Is it a short burst; is it only for a short duration of time; is it only as long as things are going well for me; is it only when it suits me?
If I expect God to be faithful towards me, at all times, in all circumstances, in spite of my behaviour or actions, etc. Am I showing that same degree of faithfulness towards others? Do I value faithfulness the same way God does?
Faithfulness is so important to God that He works through faithful people:
Matthew 25:23
His Lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and FAITHFUL servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.’
II Timothy 2:2
And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to FAITHFUL men who will be able to teach others also.
Luke 16:11
Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own?
Proverbs 20:6
Most men will proclaim each his own goodness, But who can find a FAITHFUL man?
Another aspect of displaying God's faithfulness is keeping our word towards others, and towards God, the same way we expect Him to keep His word (promises of love) towards us:
Hebrews 10:23
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
Deuteronomy 7:9
Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments
Very simply - let love and faithfulness never leave you (Proverbs 3:3)
Amen
