Good day
God wants you to know that you can come to Him for help and know that He WANTS to help you.
We often look down upon the idea of asking for help; like it's seen as a sign of weakness. We sometimes feel too shy or become embarrassed at the idea because we're afraid of what others might say about us or how they will perceive us going forward. We don't want to be made to feel inadequate or silly for asking so we keep silent instead. We want to prove (whether to others or to ourselves) that we can do it - that we can make it on our own!
The problem here my friend is that we can often take a similar approach towards our relationship with God, where we don't instinctively to come to God in our time of need and request help from Him.
The truth is that there's nothing wrong with asking God for help - in fact, the below passages indicate to us that God's help is available and freely accessible!
James 1:5
If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him.
Hebrews 4:14-16
We do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us therefore approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Psalm 46:1
God is our refuge and strength, A very present and well-proved help in trouble.
Isaiah 41:10
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.
Psalm 54:4
Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life.
Hebrews 13:5,6
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for He has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
I Peter 5:5-7
Be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
God is not surprised by what you're going to tell Him or ask of Him, He already knows everything about you (Psalm 139, Luke 12:7) ... so why try to hide anything away from the one person who is all knowing, why not just be open, honest and transparent with Him?
Why would we try to hide or shy away from someone who has said that He's prepared to offer us His help?
Put differently, refusing to ask God for help can be seen as having faith in oneself and not needing God. It can be seen as being stubborn and proud. It reflects the opposite of what it means to be in a covenant with someone (where we don't depend or draw on the strengths of the other person).
It also denies God the opportunity of His desire to help us.
When it comes to our relationship with God, asking for help is not a sign of weakness but a sign of obedience.
Asking for help is an act of faith.
It's an act of trust.
It displays our belief in who God says He is!
It's an acknowledgment of the fact that we have a covenant with a living and loving God who is there for us!
... so what are we waiting for
Let this truth be firm in our knowledge of God. He wants us to know that we can come to Him for help and that He WANTS to help us! ... This isn't a suggestion, He wants us to come to Him!
Therefore, let us always remember and acknowledge the fact that we need Him, and because we need Him, let us come before Him openly and just be transparent and honest in our engagement with Him - in our prayers, in our times of praise and worship, with how we see ourselves, with where we're at spiritually in our relationship with Him, in our approach and attitude towards church, about people we may be struggling to forgive, with being a spouse, parenting, our family situations, our work situation, etc. WHATEVER it may be ... let's be honest with Him ... for He IS OUR HELPER!
Psalm 121:1 - I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.
Amen
(I'd also like to encourage you to take the time to forward this message to at least one other person that you believe would be encouraged by it. Many times there are others who are just waiting for a message that deals with a situation they may find themselves in; Who need that bit of hope and encouragement concerning their relationship with God ... this could be one of those times!)
God bless you
