King Solomon's wealth - (Who do we trust in?)

Good day

I believe that the below message will serve as an encouragement to you - to know who you place your trust in!

Matthew 6:25-27
Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

Jesus said in the above verses that we should look to the birds (how they don't plant any seed in order to receive a harvest of food nor do they have a place where they store all their food) ... they just fly around and God takes care of them, no stress, no worries ... and He says that if God takes care of them in that manner, why wouldn't He take care of us as well, especially when we are more valuable to Him as His dearly loved children.

Then in Matthew 6:28-30 Jesus compared King Solomon’s wealth to a flower in the field, but before we go there, let's first take a moment to consider King Solomon's wealth:

2 Chronicles 9:13-27
The weight of gold that came to Solomon yearly was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold, (Some authorities say that the talent typically weighed about 33 kg (75 lb) varying from 20 to 40 kg. The gold price per kilogram as at 27 March 2020 was R919 243.92. Now if 1 talent weighs 33kg, then 1 talent of gold is worth R30 335 049.36 ... meaning that if Solomon received 666 talents of gold on a yearly basis, he would be earning an annual salary of R20,203,142,873.76 - in gold alone)‬ besides what the traveling merchants and traders brought.

And all the kings of Arabia and governors of the country brought gold and silver to Solomon ... Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with pure gold. The throne had six steps, with a footstool of gold, which were fastened to the throne; there were armrests on either side of the place of the seat, and two lions stood beside the armrests. Twelve lions stood there, one on each side of the six steps; nothing like this had been made for any other kingdom.

All King Solomon’s drinking vessels were gold, and all the vessels of the House of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold...

So King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom ... So he reigned over all the kings from the River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones ...

Taking everything we've just read into account about the wealth and glory of King Solomon, Jesus had this to say about it:

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?

Jesus says that King Solomon, in all his glory/splendor (in all that wealth we just read about) – cannot compare to how one single flower is arrayed (clothed). Now consider the fact that it was God who blessed Solomon with all that wealth and riches (1 Kings 3) and God considers one single flower to be more glorious than all the glory of King Solomon! In other words – you could suggest that it took God more time and effort, so to say, to make a flower – than what it did for Him to provide King Solomon with all that wealth we just read about!!!

… If God could provide King Solomon with such riches, which God considers insignificant when comparing it to how He's made a flower, how could we ever doubt His ability and power to come through/provide for us? ... and He makes His statement quite clear in verse 30 - if God so clothes the grass of the field (takes care of, provides for and arrays GRASS), which is here one moment and gone the next – how much more won’t He clothe us (take care of and provide for us) ... no wonder he challenges us and says you of little faith.

“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek (those who don't have a covenant with God). For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

I believe the question God would have me ask is, who are you placing your trust in today?

God is saying to us today that it must be Him!

Jeremiah 17:5-8 tells that cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the Lord ... But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence!

Psalm 121:1
I will lift up my eyes to the hills, from where shall my help come? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 20:7
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, But we will remember and trust in the name of the Lord our God.

Psalm 36:5-9
Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths.
You care for people and animals alike, O Lord.
How precious is your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings.
You feed them from the abundance of your own house, letting them drink from your river of delights.
For you are the fountain of life, the light by which we see.

Amen. Remain strong in the grace and love of God my friend, and keeping on trusting in Him, for He is faithful to His promises.
