A dream about "darkness" - Part 1

Good day

A few weeks ago I had a dream about a time in the future where there was complete darkness, like everywhere you went, regardless of time of day or location, it's like it was night time ... and then I was brought back to present day and overheard 2 people talking to each other and the one said, "all of this could've been prevented" ... and then I was taken back to that time in the future and was sitting in the darkness with a respected worship leader who sang a song and then myself and someone who was sitting with us said, "let's hang onto this one, maybe someone will get to read it one day."

I then decided to look up scriptures that made reference to the word "light" and firstly, we see from the below passages that God is light, that He is the Father of lights and that Jesus came as the light of the world.

1 John 1:5
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

John 8:12
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

John 3:19-21
And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

We then find that we who have accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour are now children of God (children of light) and therefore carriers of this light in the Earth today:

1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

1 Thessalonians 5:5
For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.

2 Corinthians 4:6
For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

John 12:36
While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.

Ephesians 5:8
For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.

Not only are we now carriers of this light but we are also instructed to allow this light to shine through us to those around us:

1 John 1:5-7
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

Acts 13:47
For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, “‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’”

Philippians 2:14-16
Do all things without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.

Matthew 5:14-16
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Our pastor recently said, "You don't get rid of darkness by exposing it, you get rid of darkness by shining the light" and that statement is so true - we are called to shine the light of God on the inside of us. I believe this dream serves as a wake up/as a warning/as a reminder to us as believers that there's a job to do/a work that must be completed/an assignment that must be carried out and that, if we're not obedient and diligent about the things God has called us to, a time will come when the lights will start to dwindle, and the result of the absence/lack of light ... is darkness.

In the next message I'll be sharing some of the ways that we can shine our light.

Amen
