Shining our Light - Part 12: Abiding in the Vine (b) - Relating to God as our Heavenly Father

Good day

Matthew 7:9-11
“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!

The above passage means that if this is the intention and desire of a loving parent towards their child, how much more, Jesus said, can we not expect the same from our loving Heavenly Father!

A loving parent wishes for their child to be kind, show respect, have good manners and be responsible (to develop good values). They would also wish for their child to be happy, to be healthy, to have a decent income, to be successful. They wouldn't want to see them fail, make the wrong choices, be unhappy, suffer any lack, etc.

Their desire would be to help the child wherever they can and if they're unable to, they'll try and make a plan or find out who can assist, etc.

They would seek to provide love, care, good, clothing, shelter, protection, financial aid and advice/counsel when asked for it...and even if not asked for it.

If we as human parents, with all our faults/imperfections, fears, limited wisdom, resources and abilities have a loving desire to be there for our children, how much more won't our loving, caring, perfect, merciful, faithful, all-knowing, all-powerful, ever-present, Heavenly Father desire to do the same and even more so!

This is very encouraging my friend! That in the same way we understand the relationship, good intentions, wishes and desires of a loving parent towards their child, we are to relate to God in like manner and approach Him as our LOVING Heavenly Father!

In the context of shining our light where we're taking a look at abiding in the Vine and discussing being in relationship with God, the encouragement is that God wants us to approach Him with this understanding, where we identify/relate, interact and engage with Him as our loving, patient, merciful Heavenly Father!

I believe God wants this my friend, so let's do so! ... He is waiting to hear from you!

Amen
