Part 18: Commitment

Good day

Previously we took a look at what Jesus Christ did for us and said that the way we receive God’s free gift of eternal life is through faith.

I'd like to share the below story as an example of what faith is like:

There's a story of a famous tightrope walker by the name of Charles Blondin who crossed the Niagara Falls. He walked across pushing a wheelbarrow holding a sack of potatoes. Upon reaching the other side he asked the audience if they believed he could carry a person across in the wheelbarrow. The crowd enthusiastically responded, “Yes! we believe you can”. He then responded and asked, "So who wants to get into the wheelbarrow?” ... to which there was no response ...

In the same way, faith is more than just believing, it's acting on what we believe.

The Bible says in James 2:19 that even the demons believe - and tremble. The demons know about Jesus but they aren’t going to Heaven. In the same way there are people who know about Jesus, they say they believe there's a God - but they haven’t yet placed their trust in Him for their salvation or accepted Him as their personal Lord and Saviour.

Another example to use is the following: Let’s say we’re stranded at sea and we’re in the middle of a storm and we’re each holding onto a plank to keep us up, and along comes the coastguard in a ship and the captain leans over and says, “I’m throwing you a life preserver, grab on and we’ll pull you to safety”. But if we’re still holding onto the piece of wood and don’t grab hold of the life preserver, we’d always be dependent on that piece of wood to save us. What we need to do is let go of our trust and dependence in the wood and grab hold of the life preserver in order to be rescued. That is what it means to place our faith in what Jesus did for us. It’s transferring our trust in our ability to save ourselves and instead placing our trust in God’s “life preserver”, Jesus Christ, so save us, where we trust in Him alone in order to receive the gift of Eternal life. (Please also read Romans 4 and Romans 10)

My next question is, would you like to receive this free gift of Eternal life?

The Bible says Romans 10:13 that EVERYONE who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. The reason why I emphasized the word everyone is to point out that this is available to each and every person. Nobody, no matter how good or bad they may be or have been in the past, can qualify, earn or deserve this gift based on their efforts or merits. EVERYONE is in need of God's free gift of eternal life - and the best past is that it's available to ALL who would call on His name.

Romans 10:9-10
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

If this is something that you’d like to do, please pray the following prayer:

"Heavenly Father. I thank you for the gift of Jesus. I believe that He paid for my sin and that He rose from the dead so that I could be forgiven. I accept Him now as my Lord and Saviour. From this day on I live to serve you, to worship you, and I know one day I will leave this Earth and spend eternity with You in Heaven, amen."

Well done my friend

Welcome to the family of God!
