Luke 2:
41 His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover. 42 And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast. 43 When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know it; 44 but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day’s journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances. 45 So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him. 46 Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. 47 And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. 48 So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.”
49 And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” 50 But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.
49 And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” 50 But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.
51 Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart. 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men
The first characteristic we find is that Jesus was in the temple from a young age (12 years old), listening to teachings and asking questions – and he increased in knowledge concerning the scriptures, so much so, that the teachers were amazed at His understanding and answers.
When His parents came to look for Him, He was surprised at their question, saying “Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” - meaning that learning and being in the temple was a customary practice for Him and He considered it as part of the Father’s business … thus the passage goes on to say that during His upbringing, Jesus increased in wisdom.
… and this didn't change as He got older:
Luke 4:16
Luke 4:16
So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.
Matt 26:55
At that time Jesus said to the crowd, "Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me
Luke 19:47
And He was teaching daily in the temple
Luke 21:37
Each day Jesus was teaching at the temple, and each evening he went out to spend the night on the hill called the Mount of Olives,
Luke 21:38
Then early in the morning all the people came to Him in the temple to hear Him.
John 7:14
[ Jesus Teaches at the Feast ] Not until halfway through the Feast did Jesus go up to the temple courts and begin to teach.
John 8:2
Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them.
John 18:20
John 18:20
"I have spoken openly to the world," Jesus replied. "I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret.
So one way in which Jesus prepared Himself for His calling, was by being in the temple (attending church) on a regular basis –> He considered this as being a part of the Father’s business.
God loves you my friend; make the most of the opportunities He’s given you … Amen
