We all have dreams and goals (career, family, marital, physical, etc.). We also have a plan and destiny that God has set before us, all the while fulfilling His purposes as we progress in His plan for our lives. These all form part of us being established in life. Part of this establishment includes time spent in prayer, in our bible reading, in church attendance, giving, making disciples, walking in love, etc. (Basically to be established in all of His word and will)
When one considers all these things that require our attention, at times it can seem very overwhelming. I often find myself in a position where it feels like there's just too much going on; like there's so many things requiring my attention and it can all seem very burdensome (even if the task is simple - many simple tasks can add up) - and how, while going through this, if I don't spend sufficient time with God, I easily crumble under that pressure and start feeling anxious and worried, like I just wish it would all go away!
At a time like this, God encourages me to take it one day at a time and would suggest, "what can you do today?" Not, how many things are left to be done or how much further do you still need to go, but how many things (no matter how small) can be done today, to ensure that you're closer to your goal today than what you were yesterday.
If your goal is planning an overseas trip, don't allow the details or the what if's, or the how's, etc. to bombard your thoughts. Just take it one day at a time and focus on what you can do for that day to make that goal a reality. Like Day 1: open a savings account. Day 2: search for the prices of flights. Day 3: search for the price of accommodation, and then to follow that same approach the following day, and the next, and so on. Eventually you'll find yourself having made daily progress towards your trip and one day be overseas on your holiday.
The same holds true for any goal, including setting aside time to spend with your best friend, the Holy Spirit, and being in the presence of God. What can you do today to make that goal a reality?
Even though we might not be where we want to be in terms of our various goals and becoming as established as we'd like to be, the truth is that it's never too late to change all of that! If you can make one change each day, that's 365 changes for the year - that's a lot of changes! In other words you'll be 365 times closer to achieving that goal than you were before! (That's good news!)
For no task becomes too big; no dream or goal becomes out of reach - because by the grace of God, you're getting closer and closer to your (and God's) desired outcome!
There's another truth that comes into play here. God's destiny for our lives is not only for us and our families, but also for the people waiting on the other side of us becoming established - the lives we're meant to reach and impact while on the Earth! This should motivate us to start - Today!
