Lessons from Peter walking on water - Part 2

Good day

Jesus told Peter to “come” to Him on the water. Even though it made no sense in the natural, Peter believed the words of Jesus and that faith, in His word, enabled Peter to walk on the water. He was doing the impossible ... but when he started looking at the storm and may have considered the impossible thing he was doing (after all, he was a fisherman. All his training and experience told him when the waves were that high, you were going under) doubt crept in and he started to focus on what he knew in the natural instead of what Jesus said. When he did that, faith slipped out and doubt and fear crept in. In Peter's case, it was the wind/storm, in our case, it might be something else.

When Peter had faith, he walked on water. When he had fear, he sank in the water.

If there's any way the devil can get our eyes away from the Word, he'll do it, in order to get us in a place of doubt and fear where we question the word/promises of God. He'll do anything he can and push every button to get us to concentrate on the realm of the physical senses and the circumstances around us in order to get our attention away from the word/promises of God. (Mark 4:14-20)

Faith is acting upon the Word of God and causes the promises of His word to manifest in our lives. Jesus had said, “Come.” and as long as Peter acted upon that word, he was all right, but when he began to doubt, fear crept in, and he began to sink. Jesus didn’t intend for Peter to sink. He meant for Peter to walk back to the boat with Him but doubt and fear prevented this from happening. In the same way, doubt and fear can prevent us from experiencing the fullness of God's promises in our lives.

Here's a thought my friend, if we doubt or question the word of God, then we might as well question our salvation because it's the same God who spoke!
If we're going to have doubt on one point then we might as well doubt all of it!
I mean, we're placing our hope for eternal salvation, our priorities, ambitions, pursuits, resources, etc. into the words we believe spoken by God through the Bible; so if we believe the words of our Father, that salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone, and place our faith in Him - based on His word - then we can surely trust every other word spoken by the same person!

Therefore if God has said that we can cast our cares upon Him (1 Peter 5:7), that He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5,6), that nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:31-39), that He is our refuge and strength and very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1) that we shouldn't worry about what we shall eat, drink or wear but that as we seek Him first, that He’ll add all those things unto us (Matthew 6:25-34), that with Him ALL things are possible (Matthew 19:26), etc. Or given us a personal word/promise/instruction, then we can, and must, take Him at His word! ... He is God after all!

Psalm 89:34
My covenant I will not break, Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.

Psalm 119:89
Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven.

Isaiah 40:8
The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.

Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?

Isaiah 55:10-11
“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, But water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

Matthew 7:24-26
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell and great was its fall.”

Not only is He God, He's also our loving Heavenly Father, therefore when we receive His word/promises/instructions, we can trust that it comes from a heart of love towards us and welcome it "with open arms"

(Deuteronomy 7:9, Psalm 36:5, Psalm 36:7, Psalm 37:28, Psalm 48:9, Psalm 52:8, Psalm 86:15, Psalm 103:2-5, Psalm 136:26, Jeremiah 29:11, Jeremiah 31:3, Zephaniah 3:17, Lamentations 3:22-23, Isaiah 54:10, John 3:16, John 15:13, John 15:9, Romans 5:8, Romans 8:35-39, Galatians 2:20, Ephesians 2:4-5, Ephesians 5:2, Titus 3:4-5, 1 John 3:1, 1 John 4:9-12, 1 John 4:16,19)

Let us be encouraged to trust God and place our faith in His word/promises towards us for He is faithful who promised (Hebrews 10:12)
