Reflecting on 2019 - Part 1

Good day

I believe God wants you to know that He isn't limited by time.

We use time to measure hours, days, weeks, months, years, etc. We set goals for our lives and plan according to time. We even use time as a gauge to determine whether or not we've reached a certain level of success and this can dampen our mood or cause us to become discouraged or even depressed.
But the thing about time is that it's just a number ... 2019 is a number on a calendar and God is not limited by the time constraints placed on us by a calendar!

Jesus said Heaven and Earth will pass away (meaning that what we see around us in the natural will pass away) but that His words will never pass away (Luke 21:33). His words are eternal and not subject to time!

It's not like God's word works on a Monday and then it doesn't on a Tuesday; like God is only available in the morning and not in the evening; like what God did in 2017 He's unable to do in 2020. The same God who performed all those miracles in the old and new testament is still the same God today! The same power that created the universe is still alive and at work today! God is eternal and His words are eternal! ... I don't know how your year has been, there may have been things that you've trusted God for that hasn't come to pass yet, but it doesn't mean that God's word/faithfulness has lost any of its power!

What does God require of us while we wait?

2 Corinthians 4:16‭-‬18
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

When the enemy throws all sorts of temptations and negative reports our way, whether it be related to family, things at work, our church, or the outlook of our nation, etc. We must not be moved by what is seen, but rather by what is unseen (the eternal word of God)

When David confronted Goliath, he declared: “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied ... All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” (1 Samuel 17:45‭,47)

David didn't focus on the problem that confronted him - His focus was on his covenant with God, we see evidence of that by him declaring God's covenant promises over a negative report and natural obstacle! He didn't focus on what was before him (seen) but rather on the depth of his realisation that his God was with him in it all, no matter what! (his focus was on the "unseen")
